  • Investigate costs of training.

  • Practice by doing
  • sharing experiences.
  • Seek journalism students.

Writing to Newspapers

  • Use the opinion pages of local and regional papers to make localised points, speak to larger concepts and issues, may get picked up by bigger & metro papers etc.

Getting in on local issues & expanding press team

  • Members in each state are responsible for identifying and writing on local issues for Press Releases.
  • All drafts to be forwarded to Mozart for clearance and sending.

Crowd funding & schwag

  • Crowd Funding
    • Chasing this up.
    • Donations portal done and getting truly awesome.
  • Swag
    • Get swag sorted once and for all.
    • Teespring probably, organic, non-child-labour and all the rest.

Hitting up businesses for funding

  • Compile list/pad of businesses affected by Pirate issues, approach for funding/donations/membership etc.
  • for example:
    • generic medicine manufacturers
    • Grey Importers like The Reject Shop etc
      • Woolworths etc do grey importing as well
    • Internet Service Providers
  • Make it perfectly clear who we are, why we're asking, what we're doing and that we'll fight the good fight regardless of donation.

How to handle PR for new policies

  • Drip feed policies over time, not all in one hit otherwise press may not take time to comb through it
  • Target PRs to coincide with topical issues/news stories
  • Have pre-written items ready to go with minor customisations
