Miles Whiticker

Why do you feel that you are qualified for the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I have been National President since 2018, and prior to that was a National Councillor for two years. In that time I have led the party through three Federal Elections, stood as a candidate myself, and contributed to most areas of party operation with a focus on campaigning, outreach, recruitment, strategy and growth. At present I'm working in web development but I also have professional experience in education and youth work, with qualifications in physics, data science, maths, programming. I also have interests in hiking and philosophy.
Why are you seeking the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I've always been a Pirate, and always will be. I have too much of a conscience to sit by while our cause of data privacy, technology advocacy and copyright reform have been in constant loss for the last decade.
What experience/contribution have you made so far to the Pirate movement, and what will you do to advance or better the Party and movement?
I volunteered for PPAU candidates in Queensland in the 2013 and 2016 Federal Elections, as well as the 2014 Griffith by-election. I ran for Queensland Senator in the 2019 Federal Election. In 2021 I was one of the founding organisers of the Fusion electoral coalition and was on the national campaigns committee during the 2022 Federal Election. Since we have joined Fusion I have been a campaign organiser for Fusion in the Federal Election 2022, Victorian State Election 2022, Aston By-Election 2023, and the Fusion Memberdrive 2023. Most of my focus there has been on campaign organising, in particular volunteer coordination.
Do you agree with the Pirate Party platform and its ideals? What other political movements or parties have you been a part of?
I have been a Pirate since before the movement came to Australia, and would never feel the same connection to any other political movement. I've never been part of any other political party and was active on the original PPAU forums before I was old enough to vote. However I have handed out flyers for Legalise Cannabis Queensland, Queensland Progressives, and similarly aligned independants.

Deputy President

AdamWoodings.jpg

Adam Woodings

Why do you feel that you are qualified for the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
Having lurked more over the last year, I feel more confident in putting forward my nomination for Deputy President.
Why are you seeking the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
The role of Deputy President was not filled last year. I suspect I could do a better job than an empty chair. I’d also like to help both Fusion and the Pirates grow, especially in my home state, in order for us to not sweat registration in the future and to potentially become registered at state levels.
What experience/contribution have you made so far to the Pirate movement, and what will you do to advance or better the Party and movement?
I stood for the ’22 election for Fusion, and I’ve been involved in organising social catchups in WA.
Do you agree with the Pirate Party platform and its ideals? What other political movements or parties have you been a part of?
I’ve been a Pirate member since 2019, drawn by the values of IP reform, privacy and drug reforms. Previous to the Pirates I was a silent member of the Sex party before they reformed as Reason and pulled their efforts back to Victoria.

Secretary

Alex Jago

Why do you feel that you are qualified for the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I am the incumbent Secretary. I like to think that I've gotten through the year without too many unfixable screwups.
Why are you seeking the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I'm running for Secretary because I figure I've now demonstrated that I can do it. If someone more qualified than me would like to be Secretary, I'll happily take the Deputy role.
What experience/contribution have you made so far to the Pirate movement, and what will you do to advance or better the Party and movement?

In 2018-2019 and 2022, I've helped fight two elections (mostly in support of our kickarse Qld candidates), taken on primary responsibility for the party Facebook page, and of course I've done the usual Secretariat meetings and memberships and submissions things.

In between it's been more of a keep-the-lights on thing in general, but I've maintained my various existing responsibilities.

I've been a part of all election campaigns in my area since I joined the party in 2014 (Griffith by-election; 2016 & 2019 & 2022 generals).

As I keep saying, our pressing task over the next year remains to grow not just in total members but active, engaged members. Fusion has state elections to fight, and that spurs participation - we're in a good place.

I don't pretend to have a magic solution, but I'll support things that seem like they'll help, with both my time and my influence.
Do you agree with the Pirate Party platform and its ideals? What other political movements or parties have you been a part of?

Yes. I've never been a member of any party except PPAU + Fusion, and I hope that never changes.

I've also helped out various Greens campaigns as an HTV-person, door-knocker and map-drawer. (The first two count as campaigning skills development.)

Deputy Secretary

Duties: https://pirateparty.org.au/constitution/#part-iii-3.2.4

Treasurer

John August

Why do you feel that you are qualified for the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I was originally in the position to give Mark G a break, but now that I am here, figure it would worth sticking around to help the party along. I have some familiarity with the tasks of Treasurer, and hope to improve.
Why are you seeking the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
Again, making my contribution as I am motivated and able
What experience/contribution have you made so far to the Pirate movement, and what will you do to advance or better the Party and movement?
I have previously been in this position for the last term, and am happy to continue. I have stood as an election candidate several times in both the lower and upper house, which involved a solid investment of time and money each time. I have participated as a member of the National Council for several years. I have advocated several PPA positions on my community radio show in Sydney and also at Speakers corner in Sydney
Do you agree with the Pirate Party platform and its ideals? What other political movements or parties have you been a part of?
I am passionate about ideas in IP and these brought me to the party. I have also been involved in the Secular Party and Abolish State Governments Party. I have since developed an appreciation for other PPA ideas such as UBI

David Kennedy

Why do you feel that you are qualified for the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I am a founding member who has promoted the party and assisted with some of our election campaign efforts in the past, and have been an acting counsellor for the past four years.
Why are you seeking the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I'm happy to continue helping where I can as part of the NC.
What experience/contribution have you made so far to the Pirate movement, and what will you do to advance or better the Party and movement?
I'm a full .NET stack analyst developer, primarily working on c# enterprise systems across corporate and government projects. If re-elected to the NC I will seek to faithfully reflect the consensus of our members and uphold our core values. I have a particular interest in freedom of expression, so I will defend these liberties wherever possible.
Do you agree with the Pirate Party platform and its ideals? What other political movements or parties have you been a part of?
I support our party policy as it currently stands. Pirate Party Australia and Fusion Party are the only political parties I've held formal membership in.

Sean O'Farrell

Why do you feel that you are qualified for the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
I have already served in this role for one term, and confident in my ability to do it for a second
Why are you seeking the position for which you have declared your candidacy?
It is my way of contributing to the party as best fits my own time constraints
What experience/contribution have you made so far to the Pirate movement, and what will you do to advance or better the Party and movement?
I have prior experience in this exact position, as well as prior experience negotiating proper interpretation of organisational bylaws and constitutions in other volunteer organisations
Do you agree with the Pirate Party platform and its ideals? What other political movements or parties have you been a part of?
Yes, and none other than Fusion. It was the Pirate Party's extensive platform (and in particular its position on reform of the treaty power) that drove me to actually consider membership in a political party, despite not generally being a fan of parties as a concept.
