National Council meeting 4th February 2021

  • New IR committee members update (Miles)
  • PPTR solidarity press release (Gabriel Allen)
  • Internal Comms updates (or not) (Alex)
  • Banking updates cont: John has forms signed, hooray (Alex/John)
  • Next federal election timing (Alex)
  • Right to repair press release (John A)
  • Policy Development Committee todos (Miles)
  • Needs to be done before next National Congress: stuff from the previous National Congress
  • Also several members have expressed an interest in developing policy

Minutes

Right to repair press release

  • John has a writeup in progress: https://pad.pirateparty.org.au/p/r2r_pr_feb21
  • "Less praise of the government please, they've done actively harmful things on this recently" - Miles
  • Inquiry secretariat will publish our sub sometime soon, Alex hopes
  • Hopefully this PR can go out early next week

International Relations

  • Miles hopes to do onboarding soonish, perhaps next Thursday (11th Feb)
  • Motion to appoint Gabriel

Internal comms update

  • we were looking at smaller-geography (half a city) email lists like the state ones
  • Alex went looking, to implement the nice auto-population thing we'd have to make changes to MemberDB
  • that's an instant too-hard-basket for now

Banking updates cont.

  • John has forms signed, hooray
  • Now on to Mark; fingers crossed

Next federal election timing

  • "There's been a lot of chat suggesting it will be at the end of the year. I concur" - Alex
  • "Consequently if we do manage to maintain rego, we should call for preselection EOIs after Easter"
  • Senate election can't happen until August, so starting at Easter is good time
  • as always, more people to call for rego

PDC things

  • More to do:
    • Some Policy Motions still need to be Platform-ified. Alex's problem.
    • PDC tasked to develop policy on several things
    • TODO: kickstart PDC. Miles proposes three Thursdays from today (25th Feb)

  • John is plugging away
  • 13th Feb still possible! Working on that basis.
