Minutes

Previous minutes

Matters arising

  • Fusion budget working group: Miles and Andrea Otto have been in comms on cost sharing
    • "We're going to want a somewhat flexible model given differing campaigns and resources"
    • "The important thing is to keep it simple and flexible"
  • Party preferences ballot goes out next week - Alex decided to keep it distinct for simplicity
  • Press and media and outreach:
    • Most press releases are actually getting read, it appears
    • Miles suggests reaching out to alternative radio and podcast media, who we've had more success with
    • Let's get them on the list!
    • Aaron reminds us: "this is not just what you want reporters to know, you want them to copy-paste it as an article"
    • used to have podcasts, now Miles organises livestreams
    • John might be able to get on some EFA related shows

Congress debrief

  • Quorum not yet reached in voting, so there's a risk the CAPs may lapse
  • FM-1 and the PMs don't have quorum, so they simply need to pass.
  • "I'm glad we had more of a strategy discussion this time" - Miles
  • Didn't get nearly as many people on Sunday
    • perhaps the lack of a morning-of email didn't help there
    • also we finished so fast

Email fun times

  • Pretty much all our processes rely on people getting our emails
  • ... but they get sent to the shadow realm, especially for people with Microsoft email addresses
  • We have DKIM and SPF and Amazon SES and all that, so it's not like we aren't trying
  • Roger reports getting mail now, so that's SES doing its job
  • Some onboarding process improvement work to be done
  • Liam thinks that we can probably mass SMS people, but we don't presently have a way to manage communications preferences
    • and we can certainly text bank under the existing privacy policy
    • text banking is go

Livestreams

  • Nuclear power livestream is next on the cards
    • Tyrone D'Lisle hopefully on board
  • 19th debrief:
    • lots more effort went into promotion this time
    • stimulus questions need to be distributed in advance
    • Aaron suggests the questions were perhaps a bit Qld centric - "lay a few threads in a question so that the answerer can pick one"

Fusion things

  • AEC audit imminent - Thursday 2nd is membership lists deadline
  • Need to tell people to expect both names
  • Phone banking to members: please answer yes to AEC when they call and ask if you are a member of climate emergency action alliance
  • fusionparty.org.au is live!
  • AEC contesting the name change because PPAU voluntarily deregistered, it seems - blindside moment
    • https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C2019C00103
    • Firstly, PPAU can't re-register on its own before the election. Sure. We knew that.
    • Secondly, there's a question of whether we're the same party. Well... we are joining Fusion, so that's debatable.
    • Thirdly, there's a question of whether the name is confusable. That's also debatable.
    • Fourth, there's no statutory time limit to process these applications.

Phone/text banking

  • It's happening
  • Vote on the CAPs
  • We are joining Fusion. Legally, we're becoming a branch of VP, and the name change is still pending
  • The AEC will probably call you in a week or two and ask you whether you're a member of "Climate Emergency Action Alliance - Vote Planet". It's imperative that you say yes.
  • ALL PIRATE POLICIES ARE STILL ACTIVE - this is an alliance of parties and we will run on our own policies
