Minutes

Previous meeting minutes

Lapse of Councillor status - Mitchell Curnoe

  • Under https://pirateparty.org.au/constitution/#part-iii-10.1(6) Mitch's status as a Councillor has lapsed.
  • Strictly speaking, we need to call an election for that position for 21 days from now
  • Given National Congress has to happen by the end of July, this is janky
  • John: "I think we are constitutionally obliged to advertise the vacancy"
  • Alex: "you know what, this is silly"
  • Motion put to roll the vacancy forward to Congress

National Congress

  • 42 day notice period means we need either the 23rd/24th or the 30th/31st of July
  • CAPs due in by 28 days before
  • General preference for 23rd/24th
  • See motions

Email Situation

  • the G Suite legacy free edition will no longer be available starting June 27, 2022
  • All we critically need is email, but modern spam is such that deliverability is very difficult for DIY
  • Dave to investigate alternatives ASAP
  • Worst case scenario, we drop down to a single Workspace user

Fusion Organisational Planning (Roger)

  • General invitation for all PPAU-NC to attend Fusion working meetings
  • see upcoming emails from Roger

Ability to access Pirate members for official Fusion activities (Roger)

  • At the moment getting access to Pirates for decisions is tricky at a Fusion level
  • We can vote on Pirate things easily but it's tricky at Fusion level
  • "I want us to work out a better way for Pirate members to be Fusion members" - Roger
  • "If we're going to merge the databases then I'd rather we just did that" - Alex
  • "What's the specific problem?" - Alex
    • "PPAU members can only be informed of Fusion level stuff through the PPAU mailing list (which they may be unsubscribed to)" - Roger
  • Can we automate Fusion mailouts into Dada? Maybe.
  • "I invite the Fusion Secretary and Pirate Deputy Secretary to put a CAP to merge our database into Fusion's" - Alex

General Business

  • the South American Pirate Parties (Chileans specifically) are doing a policy-collation effort
    • JayS has been in touch
  • Miles will be theorycrafting a few things
  • Reimbursement request for the Qld election afterparty
    • Roger: this was a Fusion event, let's send it to them in the first instance
  • Dave: this raises a question about election campaign expenses; obviously consumables are tax-deduction claimable (as donations in kind to my campaign) but permanent things? A ladder, side cutters...

Actions

  • Alex to announce the National Congress etc
  • Alex to draft a CAP that if the Annual National Congress is due in less than 90 days, vacancies may be rolled forward
  • Roger to draft a member-database-merger CAP
  • Roger to invite people to Fusion things
  • Miles: calls for candidates for VIC and NSW state elections
