Minutes

Policy Development Report

  • Policy Development Committee developed form to survey members for priorities and ideas
    • Members can rank each policy in order and add suggestions
    • 16 pre-identified policy areas sourced from suggestions and other parties' platforms
    • Results will be put forward at next Congress
  • Note from Glenn to a Question re purpose of PDC: "The reason the PDC was formed was because we'd have policies submitted at congress by individuals without being debated and researched first, so the PDC was setup to explore the issues first and get a policy ready to vote on at the congress with minimal debate required"
    • Explaining the benefits of the PDC, but note, to clarify, that the PDC is not a requirement to present policy motions, just that it helps present the best most researched policy motions/proposals.

State & Territory reports

ACT

  • Overdue for a Territory Congress, no planning made currently.
  • Expected to mainly be re-electing territory council with no new policy adoption
  • No upcoming meetings ATM

NSW

  • Meeting Saturday 28/09/2013 at Paragon Hotel, Circular Quay 12:00pm
  • Next Newcastle meeting is 5/10/2013 3:00pm - call George to double check or with help getting there (0409 397 175)
  • No Wollongong meeting planned yet, possibly on 5/10/2013

QLD

  • Meeting Saturday 21/09/2013 - need 500 members to contest in the state election
  • HUGE membership drive planned
  • Next meeting is Thursday 10/10/2013
  • Follow the Brisbane Crew twitter account if you can for updates

Issues arising from Abbott election

TPPA Backflip

  • Coalition intitally wanted to sign up to investor state tribunals as part of TPPA
    • Announced yesterday that they would oppose this clause in any agreement

Secondary Boycotts Ban

Post Election Analysis

  • Putting together group to go over election results, work starts once final results are in
    • Some volunteers already, more always welcome!

Other business

  • Support for stepping up efforts to register state branches and get SA and WA off the ground.
  • Good polling in Tasmania
  • General desire for membership drive, Frew will raise at NC meeting.
