Introduction
The corporate branding of Pirate Party Australia is integral to the party's identity. This page contains the essential guidelines for the Pirate Party Australia brand. It has been developed for use by all levels of the party to ensure consistency in visual marketing material and communications.
Web vs Print
One important distinction to be aware of is the difference between designing for the web and designing for print. When something is displayed on screen (whether online or locally), it is displayed using the RGB colour space. Conversely, when material is output for printing it is printed using the CMYK colour space.
To ensure accurate colour reproduction it is important that when designing for on-screen/web viewing the HEX colour codes are used and when designing for printing the CMYK codes are applied.

Typeface
Pirate Party Australia utilises a number of different fonts.
- Open Sans for design work
- Gehen Sans Book and Gehen Sans Condensed for the logo. (OTF format here)
- DeJaVu Sans for documentation.
Logo
Logo usage
The logo must be placed on either a solid white or Pirate Party Blue background. When placing on a Pirate Party Blue background use the negative monochromatic logo. The only exception to this is when placing on photos however readability is key. Use the standard logo when placing on photos with the light background and the negative logo for when placing on photos with a dark background.
Do
- Use the official logos available to download in their form below
- Ensure even spacing is left around the logo
- Ensure that the logo is placed on the appropriate background colour and that the correct standard/negative logo is utilised
Don't
- Modify, stretch, change the orientation, layout or text colour of the official logo (scale resizing acceptable)
- Use the logo on a background that clashes with readability
- Use a logo that is different to what is found below
Pirate Party Logos
Logos have now been optimised for large printing, please use these logos and not any older versions.
Standard Logo
Standard logo for use on a solid white background (eg. paper). When placing on photos, the standard logo can also be placed on photos with a light background. Available in colour or monochrome.

Negative Logo
For use on darker backgrounds such as solid black, solid Pirate Party Blue, or on photographs. Available in colour and monochrome, but the monochrome logo is strongly recommended: because the blue is relatively dark itself, the party name tends not to stand out much.

Pirate Party Signet
Signet only to be used as a logo by itself on internal documents, situations where brand awareness is already 100%. For marketing/communication purposes the full logo must be utilised (exception: swag related items, stickers, badges etc.)
The signet is also the party's registered logo for ballot papers, due to such logos preferring a square aspect ratio.
