  • Copyright Act is long, complicated, covers more than copyright, has inconsistencies and is fundamentally outdated.
  • Is copyright the best we can do?
  • The Working Group is to consider the viability of repealing the Copyright Act and replacing it with more suitable legislation.
  • This is a ground-up approach to achieving the goals of copyright, rather than simply reforming a broken system.
  • Agreement to use the term 'original works' to reflect what is intended to be protected.
  • Outcomes and specific questions to be interpreted as broadly or narrowly as each Working Group member sees fit.
  • Agreement to adopt outcomes: see http://pad.pirateparty.org.au/p/alt-copyright-policy
  • Agreement to adopt specific questions: see http://pad.pirateparty.org.au/p/alt-copyright-policy
  • Working Group members to individually research and answer questions as they choose.
  • Next meeting set for Thursday 26 November at 20:30 AEDT.
