Hobart Meeting

Agenda

  • Introductions
  • General update on party activities
  • State of Tasmanian Branch (someone drafted a constitution somewhere, but we still need more members)
  • Anyone going to March in March? http://marchinmarch.com.au/events/hobart/
  • What good work can the party do locally in Tasmania?
  • Any other business?

Attendance

  • Tim Serong
  • Peter Lawler
  • Charles Gregory

Minutes

  • Tim recapped last General IRC meeting.
  • Discussion about what we can do locally.
    • Look at possibly running in local councils, with view to bringing more transparency to council meetings, etc.
      • Storage space is cheap, audio files of council meetings should at minimum go online, run through speech to text converters with TTS conversion tidied up during council minute authoring.
      • Council meetings, planning approvals etc. should really be easily available.
    • Look at running for legislative council, even if primarily to keep the name out there.
      • Probably too late for leg go this year, but good time to pay close attention to the mechanics of elections etc.
    • What pieces of our core platform really resonate locally?
      • Copyright is obviously federal, but ISDS in TPP of interest to locals, as in increasing general govt transparencey, accountability etc.
    • Longer term, house of assembly, question about run a couple of candidates in each electorate, or 5 all in one seat, maybe better the latter to focus all attention on one area.
  • Need cache of stickers (car, laptop etc.), badges, flyers, promotional foo, etc.
  • Want to get rid of (at least) internet provisions of section 191 of tasmanian electoral act provisions! Impractical, unenforcable, insane. If can't get rid of internet provisions, make legislation far more accessibility friendly
  • Motion for Craige to raise some things with NC while he's still state co-ordinator (he's not here tonight, so he can't object, right? ;-)
    • Get an officially sanctioned PPAU Tas twitter account and/or locate 'operator' of alleged current account and get handover happening if needs be or request more activity in some formal manner
    • Cache of stickers, badges to be held by state co-ordinators for distribution/sale at events outside of election cycles
    • Online shop of shirts and other marketables
    • Some things for Craige to send to National Council will be just one way, some may require responses. One way stuff will be easier
  • Sort out next holder of State Co-ordinator position. Doubt we have enough members present to make serious recommendation to National Council. Majority of members present enourage Craige to make statement on Tas mail list as to his situation (Charles Gregory was talking to a guest when Peter and Tim mentioned this)
  • Transparent communications with sitting parliamentarians: Sitting politicians should acknowledge receipt of email communications from citizens. There are Internet RFCs to facilitate this (DSN etc). Personally, Pete says it is rather frustrating to work out whether a request to a parliamentarian has been received let alone acted upon.
  • Regularly test signup procedure. When Pete signed up, he was not automatically added to Tasmanian mail lists. Should constituion also be mailed (was it?)
  • Meeting Closed 19:54
