Minutes

  • Tim opened meeting at 18:30, thanked Pete for running last meeting.
  • Discussion about contacting Tas members - waiting on new join form etc.
    • Peter expressed concern that Brendan may be overcommitting himself and wondered if he needed help or anything getting the join form done.
    • This is not to be construed as demanding or whining, it's genuine concern that our members don't burn out ;-)
  • Peter moved that we formally applaud the efforts Michael Cordover has gone to to get the AEC senate voting software released for public scrutiny.
    • Seconed by Tim. Passed unanimously.
  • Mention of state anti protest laws, removal of charity status of environmental groups, we should PR around this
    • Concern that legislation is wildly too far reaching
  • Pete proposed alternate meeting venue: Tas Quartermasters, because they have a large room where we could organise regular talk nights.
  • Talk night ideas:
    • Round up all tassie journalists and tell them about IT security / infosec briefing
    • Random "politics in the pub" kinda thing
    • Talk night follows on from PPAU meeting, format, e.g.:
      • Official PPAU Tas meeting
      • Food
      • Main event
      • 18:00 - 19:00 -- dinner & meeting, 19:00 onwards main event
  • Want to do a cryptoparty some time
  • Thomas keen to get a bunch of material together
    • Intro to pirate party
    • Intro to privacy / security tools
  • People to tell about infosec:
    • Journos, doctors, lawyers, healthcare professionals
    • Anyone with public liability insurance
    • Education sector
    • Police association
  • Query: how can we promote tasmanian pirates?
  • Meeting closed 19:22, general chatter continues

Action Items

  • Tim still needs to rattle cage of brach formation WG, get promo flyer going again.
  • All: find out / keep an eye out for when anti protest laws hit leg co, for PR
  • Pete / Tim: GovHack PR, with special thanks to state govt for releasing bus data as CC BY etc. some time next week
  • Pete / Tim: Investigate Tas Quartermasters possible talk night situation.
  • Obtain Pirate Bus for road trips ;-)
  • Thomas: See what's involved in hiring the State Cinmea for movie screening
