Minutes

Previous meeting's minutes

  • Minutes not yet done. Too much Canning stuff.

Canning By-Election

Progressive alliance stuff

  • DanielJ went to alliance meeting in MarkGs absence
    • A little late due to traffic
    • Generally a worthwhile venture
    • may not have been clear enough to the animal justice party people that we did indeed have them locked in at number 2 due to some confusion over our process
      • in retrospect, suspect she thought it was not confirmed
  • raised Royal Commission into electoral reform idea
    • a lot of support from some
    • Some other parties a bit cooler on the idea.
      • Some concert re Royal Commission wont be impartial and we will end up with a worse situation that without an RC
      • reiterated that it's going to be worse anyway, especially if major parties drive reforms and that RC is possibly only way to get good reforms.
    • pushed the fact that without greens on board it probably wouldn't happen (in response to some hostility towards proposed/desired Green involvement)
    • arising from it, there's meant to be a parallel email discussion about electoral reform, but no such emails have eventuated so far
  • it was made very clear that campaigns (like marriage equality etc) are endorsed by parties on a case by case
    • and that preferencing is not considered something that should be locked in, ppl are free to do their own thing, like it seems more 'lets have this dialogue going to work together and facilitate favouring each other where possible, but its up to us/them etc'
  • Also, Frew was contacted by Larissa Brown from the Greens wanting to meet and discuss preferences in October
    • Wondering if it is at all related to the Greens reshuffle? (Rhiannon got bumped from higher education)
      • 'shift towards pragmatism'
      • shouldn't affect our relationship with them too much
    • likely wishes to talk about preferences. Need to reiterate "our members decide" (but you'll totally be ahead of liberal and labor, because our members have brains and sensory organs)

Membership DB Tender

  • dcrafti: seeking review and feedback from more IT people (review of last email dated Sept 2)
    • So if people can please revise that email as we need to get this tender happening, despite Canning distractions.0

Constitutional Reform Policy Debate and PDC

Fund-raising and administration

  • As reported by Mark, we have just over $5,000 and we need $24,000 just for candidate fees for an election campaign
    • We also have the task of having a serious look at getting a staff member
    • We have to have a serious look at fund raising beyond pozible campaigns
    • Election could be sooner than we hope (from a monetary perspective)
      • We will need election money in the bank beforehand and can then work to replenish as we go
    • It is something for us all to think about, if you have ideas raise them :)

Software Freedom Day

  • dcrafti received merchandise package sent by DanielJ
    • We should send out an email to Vic-based members to come along.
    • Calling a general Vic meeting may be a good idea too.

Banking

  • Frew and DnaielJ finally made it to the bank to get our signatures etc signatured on the paperwork that removes Brendan as signatory and adds frew
    • Frew was still signatory to one of the accounts anyway
  • Woman at ANZ insisted Ben needs to also sign, so paperwork will be sent to Ben
    • Then Ben to forward to ANZ Canberra branch

Vodafone

  • Note for future congress sim cards.
    • Vodaphone charged an extra month ($90) to DanielJ since SIM was not Terminated before end of calendar month.
    • Turns out it is not 30 day month as assumed, but rather calendar month. So ensure future SIMs are cancelled before 30th July.

General Business

  • Mailouts:
    • Brendan has made the python script more robust and user friendly so now it is easier for secretariat to send member DB driven important emails without Brendan needing to do it.

Motions

  • MOTION: Close meeting
    • Put by: Frew
      • Ayes: 6 (Rundll, Frew, dcrafti, Adien, DanielJ, Keating); Nays: 0 (); Abstains: 0 ()
    • Result: Motion carries.
