Email lists proposal
Members developing this proposal: Tom Randle NC liaison: Tom Randle (Rundll) [email protected] Party mailing list changes Feedback: Included: suggestion to include instructions for closed lists ton how to move to dicussion forums. Consider: suggestion to consider auto-subscribing members to a weekly digest of discussion topics Consider: how to allow for push-notification to mobile devices for discussion / meetup notifications (would probably need to be locale based/aware). Proposal: { This proposal is to: decommission most mailing lists (lists.pirateparty.org.au), except for Party announcement and State announcement lists; and, create a new mailing list called 'Party Notifications', for all marketing, crowd funding, internal activities updates (anything non-election/congress essentially); and, new Party members are automatically added to the Party Announcements, Party Notifications, and their State announcement lists; and, run a subscription update on all party members, adding them to the Party Announcements, Party Notifications, and their State announcement lists unless they have already unsubscribed; and, start using the State Announcements lists for notification of local crew events by State coordinators / member event organisers. } Rationale: { The majority of Party mailing lists are not used, it is therefore time for a clean up and migration of remaining uses to the discussion forums. This change will mean email lists are only used for official announcements by the Party, with any interaction and discussion directed to the discussion forums. It also remains unacceptable that new Party members are not automatically added to announcement lists, this has meant since the founding of this political party some percentage of our members will have signed up as members and missed the majority of emails we've sent (except for the most important mass mailed messages, such as internal elections). But this is still a very poor situation for member engagement which we can easily improve. } Implementation plan: { Create the new Party Notifications list and subscribe all members except those unsubscribed from Party Announcements. Run a subscription update on all party members, adding them to the Party Announcements and their State announcement lists. Send email to Party Notifications notifying everyone of the change, with information on how to manage the new lists / their subscriptions etc. Send a `closing mailing message` to subscribers of the below, directing them to new locations for participating as this may reactivate volunteers: Creative Services Work Group Programming Work Group Discussion - TAS Discussion - QLD Delete the following lists: Copyright Review Working Group Creative Services Work Group Discussion - ACT Discussion - NSW Discussion - NT Discussion - QLD Discussion - SA Discussion - TAS Discussion - VIC Discussion - WA Election Minutes - General Minutes - NC Party Discussion Programming Work Group Protect Our Privacy } Costs: { Some members will probably resign because we contact them for the first time in years. On the flip side, other members we've never properly communicated with will probably start actively participating. }
