Reports and communication

Fusion exec report back (Roger/Dave)

  • Roger: Split views of looking at the future of Fusion, versus immediate attention on the 2022 election
  • Miles: See that as the future of Fusion. Pirate Party will continue as an entity
  • Dave: Faction have their own focuses and present a united front come elections
  • Dave has been invited to future German whiskey tasting Zoom call
  • Miles: Pirates would maintain identity, policies, branding & with international Pirate community
  • Roger: Pirate Fusion candidates would not be able to promote policies that are not Fusion endorsed
  • Miles: Still excited about building a movement. We'd want to be able to focus on policies such as privacy
  • Dave: Want to go forward with a collective policies. Doesn't want to give up being a Pirate.
  • Miles: We may be placed in a conflict of interest if Fusion Exec puts us in a position that might not be acceptable by our members

Have been putting out messaging about branding and campaigning.

  • Dave: We've been pretty clear about that.
  • Miles: should be focusing on campaign organising for upcoming election. Lets get the campaigns organised. Member engagement and member meetups. Had one in Brisbane, Sydney, want one in Melbourne. Next: Fusion level meetups
  • Want comms happening across branch. Don't care if parties are dragging their feet. Need to be organising supporters nine months ago. Campaigns committee.
  • Need ... all the people ... for campaign organising.
  • John: can reach out to Ian B from Secular. May have run out of operational energy.
  • Miles: Secular may have joined with the intent of being separate. We're pooling our members together to gain strength in focus areas. Focus should be on campaigning.

Need a way to contact members of all branches from central Fusion point. Need to be organising on a regional basis, not on a faction basis.

Constitution (Roger)

  • Roger: Have previously defended focusing on the election over long term vision of Fusion.
  • Dave: need to get our stuff together for the election. There's a lot of potential, but now is a vehicle for the election. What are safe talking points, what are safe policies.
  • Miles agrees

Campaigns committee (Miles)

  • Miles: campaign coordinator, regular meetups, organise campaigning team
  • Miles: Dave has met with Drew, Roger and Miles have met with local members
  • Fred: leaving Victoria at end of Jan. Moving to NSW and might not be available to help.

PPDE livestream (Dave)

  • Dave: Jay was unable to attend. Dave had a great chat with 2 German Pirates. Wanting to use with Fusion livestream. Some people don't want to be part of discussions about nuclear at Fusion level. Have offered to help with campaign for next election. May be potential to work with them on branding.
  • Miles: might be able to like, share and retweet posts. Perhaps graphic design, tech backend.

Livestream may be pushed out. Late Jan/early Feb. Next livestream might be direct democracy. Can't take nuclear to an election. Would be shooting ourselves in the foot.

  • Dave: need to appeal to the average Joe Voter. Not focus on certain things. Quotes Clive Palmers UAP "Freedom Freedom Freedom"
