(7:47:52 PM) Tyris left the room (quit: Ping timeout). (7:47:57 PM) TyPC is now known as Tyris (7:47:59 PM) Tyris: stupid phone line (7:48:50 PM) Brendan: happens to the best of us (7:48:59 PM) Brendan: westnet/iinet flipflop (7:50:26 PM) parrot: [twitter] piratepartyau: Pirate Party meeting in 15 minutes. (7:53:43 PM) mib_0ja4ag: a/s/l? (7:53:49 PM) mib_0ja4ag: im 13/f/sydney (7:54:25 PM) mib_0ja4ag is now known as SenConroy (7:54:30 PM) #ppau: mode (+b *!Mibbit@*.11D8CCE4.IP) by Brendan (7:54:34 PM) SenConroy left the room (Kicked by Brendan (no time for children)). (7:55:12 PM) Brendan: No trolling (7:55:14 PM) Brendan: lol (7:55:26 PM) Bob is now known as BobNahara (7:55:38 PM) BobNahara: so umm (7:55:43 PM) BobNahara: whats happening? (7:56:02 PM) Brendan: a meeting, in 5 minutes. (7:56:11 PM) BobNahara: i gathered (7:56:24 PM) Brendan: it'll be fairly short, as there's no exactly anything direly pressing, but still useful info. (7:57:20 PM) BobNahara: super (7:58:53 PM) Brendan: okay, welcome guys. (7:59:34 PM) Brendan: eh, bit here and there tonight (7:59:36 PM) Brendan: let's see how we go. (7:59:43 PM) Nemykal [[email protected]] entered the room. (7:59:46 PM) Brendan: first off, about the mailouts. (7:59:58 PM) mblack [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:00:03 PM) Brendan: we'll be implementing region-based mailing lists for region-specific things, such as Meetings in victoria, etc. (8:00:21 PM) Brendan: these mailing lists will be optional, and you will be initially signed up to them, but you may unsubscribe at any time. (8:00:24 PM) parrot: [twitter] piratepartyau: Pirate Party meeting is about to begin. https://pirateparty.org.au/irc @ http://twitter.com/piratepartyau/statuses/37797927342714881 (8:00:43 PM) mib_xb3ysc [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:00:59 PM) Brendan: another mailing list for notifications, in the manner I've already been using our single mailing list, will also be optional (8:01:08 PM) mib_xb3ysc left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:01:15 PM) Brendan: but recommended, as it seemed most people last week were very thankful about the last-minute notification email that was sent out (8:01:38 PM) Brendan: and finally, there will be a mailing list that you can't unsubscribe from which will mail out semi-regular updates about the party. (8:01:57 PM) BobNahara left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:01:58 PM) Junion [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:02:12 PM) Brendan: So, to recap: region-based and notifications will be optional, and updates will be mandatory. (8:02:16 PM) Brendan: any questions or issues with this process? (8:02:30 PM) mib: no, sounds good (8:02:32 PM) samj: sgtm (8:02:33 PM) Kitsune: no (8:02:41 PM) Zhent [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:02:41 PM) Brendan: excellent. (8:02:43 PM) ***Tyris thumbs up (8:02:51 PM) Brendan: Zhent: seeing as you _just_ missed what I said. (8:02:54 PM) Brendan: <Brendan> So, to recap: region-based and notifications will be optional, and updates will be mandatory. (8:03:06 PM) Brendan: in the future, the mailing lists may be expanded, but right now, KISS. (8:03:06 PM) Brendan: :P (8:03:24 PM) Brendan: now, last week, the day after the public meeting, the NC (National Council) met. (8:03:30 PM) Brendan: for those who don't know, that's the president, secretary, etc. (8:03:32 PM) Brendan: there's 7 of us. (8:03:44 PM) Brendan: http://www.pirateparty.org.au/wiki/NC_Minutes_20110210 here are the minutes for that meeting. (8:03:52 PM) Brendan: to summarise, we agreed on a few things in regards to membership. (8:04:09 PM) Brendan: Firstly, all founding members are members until we're registered, and then for another 12 months. (8:04:16 PM) Brendan: so you don't need to worry about renewing your memberships until then. (8:04:41 PM) Brendan: If you have a look at motion two, it discusses the new memberships that will be implemented from registration (8:05:02 PM) Brendan: for the first year, all founding members will be converted into regular members regardless of if they paid or not, as they were quintessential to the registration of the party (8:05:06 PM) rayh [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:05:26 PM) Brendan: associate member exists for situations where, let's say a German PP member lives here for a year and wants to help out (8:05:29 PM) Brendan: they can get that membership and help out (8:05:40 PM) Brendan: or you don't want your name listed on the AEC because you want to work in the ADF or something. (8:05:59 PM) Brendan: and finally, motion 3 just clarifies the money management procedure of the treasury (8:06:16 PM) Brendan: so, is that all clear? Questions? (8:06:41 PM) PaulTempleton: all clear for me (8:06:44 PM) samj: why are free members time limited? (8:06:49 PM) Kitsune: all good (8:06:54 PM) Brendan: samj: they're all time limited. (8:07:02 PM) samj: i'm guessing this is people who e.g. sign up at the site - why not make them permanent? (8:07:06 PM) Brendan: because (8:07:09 PM) Brendan: what happens when they die? (8:07:15 PM) Brendan: we can't have dead people on our register. (8:07:23 PM) rayh left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:07:26 PM) Brendan: I had this same question last year haha (8:07:38 PM) jw [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:07:44 PM) Brendan: all that will happen is at the end of the 12 months it'll say "Hello, click here to renew your membership" (8:07:53 PM) Phyrus is now known as Captain_Irrelevant (8:07:57 PM) ***jw apologises for the lateness. (8:07:57 PM) Brendan: same goes for paid members, they can choose to downgrade or upgrade at any time (8:08:04 PM) Brendan: jw: that's fine. To recap: (8:08:06 PM) Brendan: http://www.pirateparty.org.au/wiki/NC_Minutes_20110210 (8:08:08 PM) samj: ok then - let's see how it goes (8:08:10 PM) Brendan: is all I went through (8:08:23 PM) stefan: is that an AEC requirement too Brendan? I can't remember (8:08:31 PM) Brendan: and I discussed region-based mailing lists and notifications lists being optional (8:08:37 PM) Brendan: and party updates being mandatory (8:08:38 PM) Brendan: stefan: it is (8:08:42 PM) Brendan: afaik. (8:08:47 PM) Brendan: I only read through the requirements last night (8:08:52 PM) samj: i think there's other/better ways to clean up the roll (e.g. bouncing email) without harassing everyone but i don't care deeply about it (8:08:53 PM) Brendan: to make sure free memberships counted. (8:09:04 PM) Brendan: samj: not all members have email addresses believe it or not (8:09:20 PM) stefan: and lack of email bounce doesn't tell us much either (8:09:24 PM) samj: so we'll be sending letters to these people every year? (8:09:35 PM) Brendan: what do you think other parties do? (8:09:36 PM) Brendan: :P (8:09:44 PM) Brendan: same with any kind of subscription (8:09:57 PM) samj: ok, as i said i'm not too fussed... just don't want us (read: you) wasting time on admin overhead (8:10:09 PM) Captain_Irrelevant: <Brendan> we can't have dead people on our register. // That's like when Sideshow Bob committed electoral fraud when going for Mayor of Springfield. (8:10:10 PM) Brendan: haha nah, it'll be mainly automated (8:10:16 PM) Brendan: Captain_Irrelevant: haha yeah (8:10:30 PM) stefan: yeah, our CRM is pretty good with that (8:10:52 PM) Brendan: now, with O'Week. Most universities that I've spoken to wont allow stalls at their unis without an accompanying society (8:10:57 PM) Tyris: does that mean I can sign my cat up? (8:11:01 PM) Brendan: Tyris: nay sir (8:11:06 PM) Brendan: unless it's on the AEC roll (8:11:16 PM) stefan: and no ficus plants either, must be a natural person (8:11:30 PM) Junion left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:11:34 PM) Tim [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:11:44 PM) Brendan: so, if anyone is interested in setting up some kind of society at their respective university, let me know. (8:12:16 PM) Brendan: In other news, we're redesigning a lot of the party's logos and the like (8:12:17 PM) Tyris: I sent some emails to a few of my uni buddies and got only crickets; so no go at melb uni im afraid =( (8:12:27 PM) mib: I'd be quite happy to spearhead a Melbourne uni one (8:12:31 PM) Brendan: the website itself is also gonig through a redesign. (8:12:35 PM) Brendan: mib: alright, sweet. (8:12:44 PM) Brendan: are you aware of the requiremetns for a society at melb uni? (8:13:07 PM) Tyris: u wont be able to get a society organised in time for o-week i don't think (8:13:10 PM) Brendan: the website redesign will begin in a few months, and before then, we will be rolling out our new corporate identity (8:13:15 PM) Brendan: we have a sexy new improved logo (8:13:31 PM) Brendan: and a more logical colour scheme, with standardised fonts and guidelines for their use (8:13:31 PM) samj: UNSW has a fairly active clubs ecosystem - probably worth getting someone from there to set one up (8:13:46 PM) Brendan: Tyris: that's ok, it's not a massive rush really (8:13:52 PM) Brendan: rushing = failure and burnout (8:13:53 PM) samj: Brendan: what CMS do you use? (8:13:57 PM) Brendan: it's not like there's an election in 20 minutes (8:13:59 PM) mib: you need 30 interested students to turn up to agm and an executive of student union members. I assume it is similar at most unis (8:14:01 PM) Brendan: samj: civicrm (8:14:15 PM) Brendan: mib: we need 15 paid members at Uni of Tech, Sydney (8:14:21 PM) Brendan: and htey must pay at least $5 (8:14:23 PM) perryn [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:14:26 PM) Tyris: clubs at melb uni can be free (8:14:31 PM) Brendan: and there's plenty of other stupid by-laws getting int he way (8:14:44 PM) Tyris: but u need student union members on the committee (unless they got rid of that? yuck) (8:14:46 PM) stefan: samj: CMS is Drupal (8:14:52 PM) samj: cool (8:14:55 PM) Brendan: Tyris: all must be union members at UTS. (8:14:57 PM) Brendan: iirc. (8:15:04 PM) Brendan: samj: oh sorry, thought you said CRM. (8:15:06 PM) Tyris: all members? (8:15:06 PM) Tyris: really (8:15:10 PM) Brendan: I'm reading like 3 conversations at once (8:15:12 PM) Tyris: melb uni u can be open to non-uni students (8:15:13 PM) Brendan: Tyris: first 15 (8:15:17 PM) Tyris: aaa (8:15:19 PM) Tyris: 15 is a lot (8:15:22 PM) Brendan: they rip you a new ass for money here (8:15:27 PM) Brendan: bastards are cheap (8:15:32 PM) Tyris: we were in trouble when they brought in the 2 on the committee req =\ (8:15:57 PM) alecthegeek [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:16:02 PM) Brendan: so yeah, guys, if you want to set one up, email me at [email protected] (8:16:07 PM) Brendan: and I'll see what we can do to help you (8:16:11 PM) mib: ok (8:16:22 PM) Brendan: although don't expect much in the way of finance haha (8:16:34 PM) Brendan: grassroots to the core baby (8:16:55 PM) mib: probably advertising (Poster printing) would be helpful (8:17:04 PM) Brendan: mib: yeah we can have that done (8:17:05 PM) Tyris: melb student union (8:17:08 PM) Brendan: :P (8:17:09 PM) Tyris: give you allowances for that stuff (8:17:16 PM) Tyris: tho maybe not for this sort of stuff? <not sure> (8:17:27 PM) Brendan: well, some unis wont allow political party societies (8:17:47 PM) Tyris: melb uni obviously does <_< (8:17:47 PM) Brendan: in which case you can just make an file-sharing culture society or something (8:17:51 PM) Tyris: they used to really shit me when i was there (8:17:57 PM) Brendan: yeah (8:18:03 PM) Brendan: here at UTS, it's catholics and socialists (8:18:04 PM) Brendan: nothing else (8:18:05 PM) mib: you can use the student intranet to do stuff, but anything that actually needs money will need you to be an official club (8:18:14 PM) samj: Brendan: good point - can't remember if there were political parties at UNSW (just stuff like underwater club, skiing club and "children born of satan"!?!) (8:18:27 PM) Tim left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:18:31 PM) Brendan: you could just make it the Pirate Culture Society or whatever (8:18:42 PM) Brendan: you would not be technically affiliated with us (8:18:48 PM) Brendan: you'd be completely autonomous (8:19:02 PM) rofflelmao [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:19:03 PM) Brendan: just don't misrepresent the party if you discuss it :P (8:19:14 PM) mib: political clubs at Uni Melb are fine. It'll cause quite a stir with the others though (8:19:26 PM) mib: we is what we want (8:19:29 PM) mib: *which (8:19:32 PM) mib_c1udf9 [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:19:34 PM) Brendan: yep (8:19:53 PM) Brendan: oh, and I received an email about the pirate gazette, showing interest in writing something up, but not knowing what to write about :) (8:20:09 PM) Tyris: thats heartening (8:20:12 PM) mib: cool :) (8:20:20 PM) Brendan: So, in my response to unnamed person, I said that articles about the Trans-Pacific Partnership and how it is essentially ACTA PLUS (8:20:32 PM) Brendan: so I'll probably send out an email in the next couple of weeks with topics to write up about (8:20:35 PM) Brendan: but to list a few now (8:20:40 PM) Brendan: - ACTA, and what it means for the world and Australia (8:20:48 PM) Brendan: - TPP, and what they havent learnt from ACTA (8:21:00 PM) Brendan: - Wikileaks and Pirate Party's effect on Tunisia and then the rest of the Middle East (8:21:12 PM) Brendan: and pretty general things like where copyright has gone wrong (8:21:14 PM) Brendan: or where patents are bad (8:21:20 PM) mib_c1udf9 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:21:23 PM) Brendan: anything notable or interesting, doesn't need to be more than a few hundred works (8:21:24 PM) mib: yeah, a content list might help kick it off (8:21:25 PM) Brendan: words* (8:21:34 PM) Brendan: 300 words would be a good amount for a small article (8:21:37 PM) Brendan: 1000 probably max (8:21:42 PM) Brendan: people suffer from tl;dr (8:21:50 PM) Brendan: pictures are allowed :P (8:21:56 PM) Brendan: but only one, two if they're small (8:22:07 PM) Brendan: So, any takers on any of those topics there? (8:22:27 PM) Brendan: perhaps somebody could discuss why they think our policy of non-commercial filesharing legalisation will help promote innovation instead of stifle it (8:22:54 PM) Tim [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:23:09 PM) jw: Oh Brendan, that email was me. (I'm kinda trying to do three things at once so I'm a bit behind in conversation.) (8:23:26 PM) Brendan: jw: I know it was you, I just didn't want to out you in case you didn't want to be outted :D (8:23:33 PM) stefan: heh, we had most of those discussions last night with the Adelaide crew (8:24:20 PM) jw: Brendan: Haha, all good. Not sure when I'll have time to write something up, but I'll get there. (8:24:22 PM) ***Brendan hears crickets. (8:24:43 PM) Brendan: but yes, I will send that mail out probably around Monday (8:24:49 PM) Brendan: I'm a bit busy for the rest of this week. (8:25:00 PM) jw: Do we want anything on general privacy/freedom of information things? (8:25:05 PM) Brendan: of course. (8:25:08 PM) Brendan: anything to do with the platform (8:25:15 PM) Brendan: it's a free plate of journalism (8:25:16 PM) Brendan: haha (8:25:37 PM) samj: what's the context - jus the pirate gazette? (8:25:49 PM) samj: these all sound like good topics for the site/blog, mailing list, etc. (8:25:57 PM) Brendan: the Gazette. (8:26:07 PM) Brendan: the Gazette will be mailed out when it is populated with info (8:26:13 PM) Brendan: and we will be adding a section to the website called Insights (8:26:19 PM) Brendan: where you can write up large editorials (8:26:23 PM) Brendan: and have them published ont he website for all to see (8:26:35 PM) Brendan: gazette: short enough to keep people up to date (8:26:38 PM) samj: i'd be more inclined to contribute if I thought there was going to be a larger distribution (8:26:42 PM) Brendan: insights: long enough you wont need to use google ever again (8:26:49 PM) samj: does anyone actually read newsletters from membership orgs? ;) (8:27:07 PM) Brendan: samj: I got interviewed for writing the Gazette by a media org (8:27:11 PM) Brendan: saying there needs to be _more_ of this (8:27:11 PM) Brendan: haha (8:27:28 PM) Brendan: so people do read it. (8:27:35 PM) Brendan: because they want to see the other perspective. (8:27:37 PM) stefan: social media works in our favour for stuff like that (8:27:41 PM) Brendan: yeah. (8:27:54 PM) Brendan: and it's creative commons, so people can rip it and mix it to suit them if they attribute (8:28:05 PM) Brendan: so it's meant to be as palettable to all audiences as possible. (8:28:41 PM) Brendan: the Gazette will be integrated with the new site better when it's done too. (8:29:39 PM) Brendan: Ah, I should have been writing minutes. Now I have to read a backlog, haah (8:30:09 PM) samj: ok sgtm (8:30:28 PM) Brendan: So, any other pressing issues or interesting matters people would like to bring up for discussion? (8:31:11 PM) mib: nope (8:31:35 PM) mib: vic meeting tomorrow right? (8:32:00 PM) Brendan: yeah (8:32:06 PM) Brendan: oh btw (8:32:08 PM) Brendan: the corporate identity (8:32:15 PM) Brendan: that will be launched in the next few weeks if all goes well (8:32:19 PM) Tyris: I might be able to get melb uni gaming association to put some flyers on their table... (8:32:20 PM) Brendan: we just need to find a good pantone blue (8:32:21 PM) Brendan: haha (8:32:24 PM) Tyris: how do I go about getting flyers? (8:32:28 PM) Brendan: Tyris: email me (8:32:29 PM) rofflelmao left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:32:33 PM) Brendan: or enquiries@ (which is also me) (8:32:38 PM) Tyris: alright, I will assuming I get some confirmation <_< (8:32:39 PM) Brendan: and I can have a bunch sent out to you (8:32:44 PM) Tyris: fantastic =) (8:32:46 PM) Brendan: I'll say (8:32:48 PM) Brendan: hey Dave (8:32:53 PM) Brendan: you know how your workplace doesnt guard the printer (8:32:59 PM) Brendan: we need to you to accidentally 1000 pages (8:33:21 PM) Brendan: but yeah, there's no issue with flyers. (8:33:48 PM) Brendan: alright guys, well that's pretty much it haha (8:33:55 PM) rastilin left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:34:00 PM) Brendan: that was a considerably long meeting considering I had no real agenda for tonight (8:34:01 PM) Tyris: I accidently the whole flyer (8:34:17 PM) Tyris: dun worry about it; I was eating dinner the whole time :X (8:34:25 PM) Brendan: haha (8:34:27 PM) Brendan: I had to rush mine (8:34:27 PM) Brendan: :o (8:34:29 PM) PaulTempleton: are you on the list? http://www.scribd.com/doc/48393859/Anonymous-v2 (8:34:43 PM) Brendan: no. (8:34:47 PM) Brendan: I was never in the Anonymous channels (8:34:53 PM) RIUMplus [[email protected]] entered the room. (8:35:12 PM) PaulTempleton: *SIGH* (8:35:14 PM) stefan: but was Bernard Keane? (8:35:18 PM) Brendan: that "evidence" is pretty useless, too. (8:35:27 PM) Brendan: stefan: he was, because he was writing about their antics. (8:35:28 PM) Nick: is that the aarron barr failsauce? (8:35:29 PM) PaulTempleton: its way off (8:35:38 PM) Brendan: Nick: lolye (8:35:39 PM) samj: that stuff is still cracking me up (8:35:41 PM) stefan: ah k (8:35:42 PM) samj: good ars article on it today (8:35:45 PM) Brendan: and the HBGary failure (8:35:46 PM) Brendan: my lord (8:35:51 PM) Brendan: btw, meeting is officially over. (8:35:54 PM) Brendan: this is all off the record now haha (8:35:55 PM) samj: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/02/anonymous-speaks-the-inside-story-of-the-hbgary-hack.ars (8:36:02 PM) Tyris: cheers Brendan (8:36:06 PM) alecthegeek left the room (quit: Quit: Ex-Chat). (8:36:07 PM) ***Tyris retreats back into the shadows (8:36:09 PM) Nick: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/02/how-one-security-firm-tracked-anonymousand-paid-a-heavy-price.ars/ that too, greta analysis (8:36:23 PM) Tyris: I'll hit you up with an email if I get a positive response from uni gaming club (8:36:51 PM) Kitsune left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:37:12 PM) samj: interesting the guy social engineered apparently is "Chief Security Specialist" at Nokia - I had suspected that was the case (8:37:36 PM) Brendan: Tyris: sweet. (8:39:14 PM) Brendan: writing up minutes is boring (8:40:05 PM) PaulTempleton: try a doing a state campain...:'( (8:40:24 PM) PaulTempleton: to me it all seems to simplistic - the whole anonymous thing (8:42:08 PM) Brendan: PaulTempleton: you're running for NSW Parliament? (8:42:11 PM) Brendan: in Coffs? (8:44:19 PM) Brendan: http://paste2.org/p/1249436 <- minutes (8:44:22 PM) Brendan: any issues? (8:44:29 PM) SirSquidness left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
