Purpose

To provide a guide for submissions to government, parliamentary and independent inquiries, reviews and consultations, including (but not limited to):

  • Departmental inquiries,
  • Parliamentary committee inquiries,
  • Australian Law Reform Commission inquiries,
  • Royal Commission inquiries, and
  • Consultation papers, discussion papers, and issues papers.

Minimum standards

Title pages

All submissions must include a dedicated title page with the following information:

  • who is receiving the submission (eg "Attorney-General's Department", "Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security", or "Australian Law Reform Commission"),
  • the name of the inquiry or review,
  • the Party's full name,
  • the author's names and email addresses, and
  • the full date of submission.

Author's names and email addresses may be omitted if appropriate (such as where the authors have requested it). Where no names or email address are provided, [email protected] should be substituted.

Citations

Sources should be footnoted and cited according to version 3 of the Australian Guide to Legal Citation (AGLC). No bibliography is necessary.

Structure

  • Page numbers must be included.
  • A table of contents should be included for submissions longer than five pages, unless there are no distinct section headings.
  • Sections should be numbered.
  • An unnumbered introduction may be included, providing information about the Pirate Party, summarising the submission, and thanking the relevant body for the opportunity to submit.

Writing

It is preferred that submissions are written using LaTeX. Overleaf can be used for collaborative LaTeX editing. Google Docs and Etherpad may also be used.
