Sydney Meetup April 2014
- NSW: There's no more Attorney General's Department
- We can't look at the source code for the calculations of the AEC. We are complaining but the AEC is arguing it is a private business. Luckily they publish the raw numbers so they can be separately processed.
NSW branch policy ideas:
- Bring back the separation of powers and undoing the damage that Mike Baird's doing.
Other things:
- Congress will be held on the 19th / 20th of July in Brisbane.
- We will motion to leave PPI or at least switch to observer status, because the PPI isn't really working as it should be.
- There was a discussion about domestic violence. So far:
- We agree that it's a good idea to have a policy on domestic violence.
- There are a bunch of recommendations which the ALRC have made which we should take very seriously, and these mostly address the enforcement side of things
- We also need to address education and marketing somehow, to change how domestic violence is dealt with in society.
- Mike Baird wants to change universities into for-profit colleges. There's also been talk of privatising public hospitals.
- Our website needs work.
- Share buttons on website.
- Twitter feed on website.
- General cleanup of website.
- Our website is on Github. We should attempt some cleanup there.
- Our calendar is terrible, we should try and use Eventbrite maybe?
- We should create an account on Reddit and generally be more active on that site.
- We aren't having as many email discussions.
- How do we manage volunteers?
- We should try and organise a list of short, low priority "jobs" which people can randomly pick up.
