Sydney Meetup 22nd Feb 2014
- 10th March there's a TPP public meeting at the Association of good government at 2pm.
- We should put the new submissions from the PDC on the website. It appears we haven't been doing anything since 2011
- Qld election went really well for us. Rumors of us polling higher than the greens likely propelled us upwards. 2 People per booth works well
- While we do not approve of the NSW "Coward's punch" laws, we do not have specific plans, as the policy will likely fail.
- George Brandis said some things about copyright. Amongst which was an accidental "Privacy is a scourge".
- He wants a three strikes policy.
- Choice wants to demonise file sharing and draw attention to fair use. This is foolish.
- We need to show that fair use is in our economic interest
- Fair use but with a three strikes policy still means that the government must necessarily snoop on our data.
- IGEA (Games association) split from AFACT, they agree with our policies on classification. Not on other issues, but they are open minded.
- PDC has been working on a tax and welfare policy.
- Everyone is very excited about it. Based around negative income tax and a wealth tax. We are also doing tax modelling (the only party to do so?)
- Efficient and eliminates churn -- handing money to people who hand it back.
- TIA submission is due next week. Around 12 pages done so far
- "Protect the Children" submission is progressing.
- IP Laws and Trademark review
- Submission was put it. These were mostly good ideas but are threatened by the TPP.
- Everyone is very excited about it. Based around negative income tax and a wealth tax. We are also doing tax modelling (the only party to do so?)
- Sam Kearns will have a podcast, will interview Mel.
- Universal Join and Renewal forms are nearly ready.
- We need to do some party formation work.
- Ideas for NSW party:
- Regional cities -- Better public transport between regional centres and incentives to move out there.
