Election strategy process
- James Varoutsos had expressed some interest in getting this moving
- aiming to put together a document that'll be our strategy for campaigning & marketing ourselves this election
- It should govern how we'll fund the campaign, what'll be the most cost effective strategy to promote ourselves, what avenues we should use for promotion
- hopes to have it drafted and Request for Comments by next meeting
- guideline doc will help avoid the risk of coming across un-coordinated and inconsistent
- include 'theme' of the party's campaign
- Having a theme we can stick to for the next six months will be very important
- Core values and messages to focus on this election. For instance, the message that data retention is a symptom of a police state
- The protection of popular culture, fair use and the rights of consumers should also be an important message
- & note that positive messages are better received/Negativity loses votes for target, doesnt necessarily win us votes. Negativity should be avoided
- we'll end up playing on a few negativities, such as internet filtering and data retention, but the majority of our message will be our positive core values
- eg note about framing, censorship bad, but positive is PPAU protecting our freedoms from it
- PPDE advert as example http://vimeo.com/5554337
- James Varoutsos to lead the defining a election campaign development process over the next week
Approve social media suggestion form
- a form for members to suggest links to post up on our social media pages?
- kill this for now, need a better way, especially since links will be old by time they are actioned
- more useful would be a tips@ email that goes to the social media people
- only workable solution may be where members cam format posts and then goes through a signoff process from at lest to NC/CC members
- or a technical API solution (somethig like hootsuite, but that is too expensive)
- need more programmers
- Twitter TOS is prohibitive to this sort of thing
- or a technical API solution (somethig like hootsuite, but that is too expensive)
- need a moderation platform with some formatting options and a public web form
- let us know if anyone finds something like this
Advertise a position for Leader of the Creative Services Work Group
- essentially a person with strong graphic design / media production experience
Approve A4 posters
- if anything could remotely be considering an electoral advertisement it needs the authorised by lines
- words should be kept to minimum (<25) but hard word limits don't work needs to be case by case.
- poster 1
- motion as poster fails, may work as a leaflet/handout rather than poster, but will need work first
- poster 2 (youtube poster)
- approved
Extra discussion
- more parody posters like the youtube one would be good, but few examples are as publicly recognisable
- region locked content maybe?
- IFACT suing iiNet?
- DMCA takedowns
- Thomas Randle needs more help with website content, emails after meeting
