Open Democracy

Andrew Downing: 

As you probably already know, I've been investigating the use of online participating/direct democracy, with an eye to incorporating some of this into PPAU in future.

There is a discussion group "Designing Open Democracy: Technical Discussion Group" that has formed from a collective of interested parties, mostly from the main groups trying to do this sort of thing in Australia.
They were previously mentioned here: https://discuss.pirateparty.org.au/t/designing-open-democracy-melbourne-meeting/942
I also expressed some views on those various groups approaches here: https://discuss.pirateparty.org.au/t/designing-online-democracy-some-thoughts/943
Although this group is more Melbourne centric, I attended their last meeting via Skype conference.

There's a lot to be considered, but at this point, I think the mivote organisation shows some promise and they would like to open some discussions with PPAU.

Some key points to clarify up front:
1. mivote insists that they are "strictly ideologically neutral"
2. Even though they have aspirations to be a political party, this does not involve any kind of merger or anything like that.
3. there are various potential models for cooperation. They are open to discussion.

I would like to form a small working group from within the NC to meet with mivote, consider our options and report back to the NC.
