Minutes

Previous Minutes

Bank Account things

  • Alex went in to ANZ to try and sort things out on Dec 14th
    • "Sometime in the last while ANZ's rules have become such that bank account signatories must be either appointed by a motion, or the organisational rules say that their position entitles them. Turns out our rules don't say that, and I hadn't had the foresight to put a motion. "
  • Two motions: one to appoint explicitly, one to create a by-law.

Membership drive updates

  • people have been working through their call lists :)
  • often callees are happy to renew, may not know they're expired
  • a few negatives too, but that's to be expected
  • thanks to Miles for his phone-banking script for guidance and inspiration

Next Pirate Live

  • Miles has recruited 3 MEPs for a livestream on Jan 29th
  • High production quality desired! "Graphics please, Alex"
    • in-stream and promo
  • Also searching for other people to interview
    • left-libertarianism with someone from Catalonia
    • climate change with Bailey from Canada
  • Alex tasked to get the Discord/IRC bridge functional again

Member Mailout

  • Call for items
    • probably going out in the next few days
  • John and Andrew, Speakers Corner, this Sunday
  • "Please renew!"

The inevitable Julian Assange off-topic

  • "a win for Julian, but not for journalism"
  • denied bail, still in appeals, we'll see how it goes
  • closer to home, the December event we helped with went well, too
    • (and the UBI/JG debate went well too, FWIW)

John's bureaucracy video

  • John has recorded a video!
  • Alex has put it through iMovie: it's trimmed, has an overlay, and an auth slide at the end
  • Ready for upload to platforms
  • John suggests similar topic for livestream discussion, perhaps him, Mark, Miles
    • Emily Sims from Prosper might be available too, but obviously her bailiwick is more LVT
    • Alex suggests that maybe a distinct "tax reform video" would be more ideal for getting Emily involved, and we have the bureaucracy video in the meantime
    • John: the speech video is a splash, the real meat is the followup discussion
    • or they can be two halves of the same (longer) stream, and we do tax first
