We emailed all minor parties stating our intent to preference transparently and democratically, each party was invited to reply with an invitation to Pirate Party members to preference their party. Explanation of our request, intent and the email we sent, is available in our press release here: https://pirateparty.org.au/2013/07/18/pirate-party-leads-the-way-with-transparent-preferencing/

Email response from the Australian Independents Party (Dated 19 July 2013)

Dear Pirate Party Members,

Thank you very much for the opportunity to highlight the synergies and similarities between the Pirate Party and Australian Independents party.

Our hope is that by highlighting the extent to which the aims, aspirations, goals and policies of our party, overlap with those of the Pirate Party, you will consider directly preferencing the Australian Independents in Queensland and at least “high” in other states and territories.

The Australian Independents party has a great deal of ideological respect for the Pirate Party; we hope to, ideally, come to a mutually beneficial arrangement with the Pirate Party, which will be of great benefit to both political groups.

The Australian Independents agree with and support the Pirate Party principles of:

Freedom of culture and speech,
The inalienable right to liberty and privacy,
The protection of the freedoms provided by the evolving global information society,
The transparency of institutions, and
The restoration of the freedoms and balance lost through the encroachment of harmful and overbearing intellectual monopolies.

The Australian Independents stand for:

  • Stamping out corruption
  • Transparency
  • Accountability
  • Genuine representation
  • Democracy

The Australian Independents priorities are highly compatible with those of the Pirate Party.

Again, thank you very much for this opportunity to communicate with you directly.

Warmest regards,

Patricia
