General
- All material carrying the Pirate Party Australia logo must be approved by the National Council prior to distribution. Do not print before approval is given, as there is no guarantee that anything will be approved.
Design
- Pirate Party Australia logo should be as big as possible at the top or bottom of the page;
- Avoid using too many colours – it confuses the audience;
- Avoid using red as it has a strong socialist connotation;
- A simple colour scheme with complimentary colours should be aimed for;
- Include the QR code if possible;
- Do not include too much information – it is overwhelming and people tune out if it fails to grab their attention;
- Slogans should be prominent;
- Avoid mixing fonts, and avoid mixing bold, italicised and underlined text.
Language
- Avoid negative statements and words. Attempt to reword negative sentences from a positive angle where possible (however "Not socialists" is acceptable);
- Do not use words that portray Pirate Party Australia as anti-capitalist, anti-money, anti-copyright, and so on;
- Do not use acronyms that people are unaware of, particularly if it refers to international agreements and foreign legislation;
- Justify statements – if "how?" can be asked after a statement is made, the statement is ineffective;
- Avoid statistics – most who read them don't care, and those who care don't believe them;
- Make sure mentions of the Party are frequent. Try to portray Pirate Party Australia as a solution to the problems, not just stating what the problems are;
- Use as simple language as possible. Write in plain English;
- Long sentence should be broken into two. Twenty words, or three lines maximum, whichever comes first.
