Tasks for Pirates with time on their hands

This is a page for Pirates who are looking for something to do. Some tasks will be simple, such as writing some text or designing an infographic. Others will be ongoing, such as volunteering to help with social media.

Guidelines

Anyone may propose a new project, just add it to the most relevant section.

If a project requires a group effort, please post in the forums requesting help and providing links to where the work is happening.

If you have started a project that you wish to complete yourself, but it will take time, please put your name down next to it, and the date you started the work.

We have a style guide, which includes logos etc, it can be found here. Where relevant, please use it.

Also be aware of the Authorisation processes.

Video scripts

We need to create materials to help spread our message. The following topics cover much of our core platform and having easy to understand explainers would be useful for members to share with their social networks and help promote our politics.

Copyright and sharing culture

We are called the Pirate Party for a reason, this is the reason. A video explaining the politics of sharing culture would help promote our ideals. It could be about intellectual property more broadly, depending on how the writer wishes to tackle it.

Why mass surveillance is wrong

We need a video explaining how surveillance leads to a chilling effect on free speech. Should also cover the ways it could be abused when in the wrong hands.

Why free speech is important

How attempts to control speech are authoritarian and any argument to limit speech for one group opens up the risk of limiting speech for any other.

Basic income through negative taxation, why?

A video explaining the need for a basic income in the face of automation and the casualisation of the work-force. The benefits of removing ridiculous compliance obligations (smaller bureaucracy). This is a broadly popular idea and making good content will do a lot to raise our profile.

Infographics

Why patents harm innovation

A general explanation of why we want patent reform, covering ever-greening, patent thickets, how patents stifle innovation through limiting new developments, patent trolls etc. Patents are a poorly understood policy area in the general public and we need some easy to understand explanations.

How to get around censorship

A brief guide to avoiding censorship, mostly about government blocks on The Pirate Bay etc. If the authors wish to go into avoiding censorship under more authoritarian regimes, that would be excellent too, but not necessary.

How to protect yourself from mass surveillance

A sharable infographic of our data retention guide would be useful

Any idea that encapsulates our stance on issues simply and clearly. We need sharable content for social media covering everything we campaign on.

Website content

Though our website has recently had an overhaul (early 2017), some content that was intended to be included still needs works:

• A 'How we do things' page, needs refactor: This page should explain the tools and basic processes Party members use to collaborate online.
• An 'On-boarding' page for new party members. Currently new members receive a very large email, this content should be moved onto the web.
• Improve 'Our vision' page, this page was intended to be much larger than it currently is, and lead website visitors off to policy areas.
