Minutes

Previous meeting's minutes

Press matters

  • Mozart's ramble:
    • We are not issuing press releases anywhere near as often enough.
    • I am very busy with uni.
    • I am also unenthusiastic because there haven't been any good things to write about.
    • The only times I've written a press release in the last year is when Brendan has told me to write one.
    • I need help with press releases.
    • I would prefer not to write press releases, because I don't really have the time at the moment.
    • I can still edit press releases, time permitting.
    • The National Council needs to seriously consider a permanent replacement for me.
    • The National Council also needs to write press releases itself, and encourage members to participate if they can.
    • The authorisation guide and press release guide are suitable enough for people to follow (and to take over if a replacement can be found).
  • Adien and dcrafti keen to assist more
  • Generally just start on pads
    • people should camp in #ppau-press
  • All NC gets media@ emails
  • It's also about being a bit more proactive on the issues we want to talk about as well
    • easier said than done given we are all volunteers
    • and not every topic is worth writing/shouting about
  • We still need a dedicated media team
  • Suggestion to pick some topics that we have written about already so we have a style guide and can get some practice on topics that are still relevant
  • We probably need to ensure people know that they can initiate press releases. They need to be approved by NC etc before being sent out, but anyone can dive in and start writing one. if one gets started... then there is a better chance of others chipping into help finish it and get it into shape.
  • Props to William for starting up the CSG PR
  • Rule is signed off by 2 NC members
    • & best to send to someone like Mozart first for an editing
  • General discussion about "condemns"
  • Don't be afraid to raise issues on Discourse
  • More positive PRs would be nice too
    • But hard when so much crap to react to
  • Thanks to Mozart for awesome Press work so far

Ratification of policy changes

  • See Motions
  • Also CFV was done over email for the ratification of the new Energy, Environment and Climate Change policy so that it could be referenced in a Press Release on CSG
    • See Motions

Membership Proposal

Recruitment and engagement

Tender process for party IT infrastructure

  • Unsure who added this item
    • Presumably relates to tendering for member database changes
    • discuss further over email as Fletcher and DanielJ work on wishlist and consult with Brendan
  • Note from Thomas that the NC could do with a brief of what we know about where IT is at in the party
    • ask ITWG for an overview: broad summary of what we're running and on what.

Preselection meeting required soon

  • At some stage we will need to sort this out.
    • Frew thinks we would be okay to run it online with candidate videos, would be the easiest way to do it
    • statements from candidates etc
    • If an election drops, we're in the same position
    • If we can get out ahead of it, it would be awesome
  • We could also organise to cover the DRC stuff at a national preselection meeting also like a mini congress type event online.
  • We can work on the technical details later. I think the point is more to make sure that people are aware that this is coming up. NC members (and others) should start looking for candidates.
  • We can have people ready to go because we know the election will be next year at the latest
  • Basically we ask for volunteers, member nominate, then we vote on them.
    • There is a police check as part of the process also.
    • Media training etc
  • October a possibility? - could be scope/need to have sooner.
  • We should expect some announcement by the major parties near to the election which makes it harder to run or moves the goalposts in some way

State/Territory Coordinator nomination process

  • All spilled as of congress technically
    • States are not moving forward too well.
    • Election process results in single candidates defaulting into position.
    • Better to be more targeted etc
    • TAS and QLD are a bit more viable and Tim & Brandon still keen for co-ordinator positions.
      • Reappoint Tim and Brandon
      • See Motions
    • Suggest other states fall under the purview of relevant/willing local NC member.
      • NC person, or otherwise keen individuals can call/arrange periodic meetings
      • See if such meeting become viable and if people step up to the plate in running things
      • Look at appointing future co-ords for that state based on performance in so doing such meetings etc, but leave vacant for now.
      • Mozart points out previous practice was to appoint persons as coordinators where they demonstrated ability before being given a title.
        • In some cases it was better to have no coordinator, than an ineffectual one.
    • Need to go back over the state and local reqs for registering in each state and target each state with those goals in mind and in reference to the rego process.
  • We have every state except the NT covered in the NC
  • Getting member details at state level to co-ordinators is desired by co-ordinators and needs to be looked at/facilitated with a proper process.

https ifying wiki links

  • ITWG desires to migrate wiki to https
    • This will affect links to minutes etc (ie the actual text of canonical links etc)
    • Brought to NC due to historical record reasons
    • All links will still work, just changes http to https as reflected in changelogs
    • No objections
    • Broad support for doing so

General Business

  • nothing of note
