Minutes
Previous meeting's minutes
Electoral Reform
- This is happening
- will change things with the AfP
- Makes the odds of us getting elected any time soon much lower
- Our Submission was great
- https://pirateparty.org.au/media/submissions/PPAU_2016_JSCEM_Electoral_Amendment_Bill.pdf
- nice work those who wrote it
- the Greens and Libs ended up shutting down the inquiry because it was inconvenient
- the JSCEM report was obviously largely pre-written
- could mean a renewed focus on state politics and state level registration
- we should probably run on the Fed election in the states where we think we could get state rego & use it as a way to raise profile
- Some subtle low key feelers for candidate nominations have gone out, but nothing yet.
- Will need to explicitly call for candidates soon
- Ludlam was given our submission to JSCEM
- Greens agreed to BTL in a party room meeting it seems
- Overall issue may harm Green image in long term
Greens meeting report back
- Simon Frew, Mark Gibbons and Daniel Judge met with Greens representatives regarding our concerns over electoral reform
- Mostly platitudes to try and placate us
- implication that they were happy to meet with us due to our less combatative response to electoral reform moves
- Pointed out they kept member audit at 500 rather than 1500
- They seem to think reforms wont benefit coalition too much, nor be too much of a barrier to legit minors.
- The deal with Libs seemed pretty much set in stone. Their minds made up.
- 'we're not going to vote against something that's been our policy for 10 years'
- They do seem to be under a fair amount of pressure from other elements on the left, but reforms will entrench them as the main crossbench so in their benefit.
- 'its a turf war justified with preachy rhetoric'
TPP/Website Blocking Strategy Meeting report
- Basically, people thought doing a good sub to the JSCOT review was the best thing we could do for the TPP
- If there is time we should put up pointers for others to do their own subs - try to encourage as many people to send in their thoughts as possible
- With the website blocking cases, we should put out our guide on how to get around any blocks put in place by ISPs
- promote it verily, like the data retention guide
- like https://pirateparty.org.au/dataretention/
- it is useful to have the pirateparty in the url cos it's an extra marketing/profile piece
- Idea of a DIY guide for people to do submissions is well liked
- just needs to be sufficiently different so they don't all look the same
- We need people putting in time to gathering info for the TPP sub
- And if possible, that info going up for everyone to pilfer to bombard JSCOT
- Pad or wiki. maybe pad to start, compile into wiki to share when ready
PO Box Renewal
- maybe best to wait tiol mark gets back for this one
- just have the renewal notice for the PO Box
- we save $5 if paid by 31 March
Investigate how to convert the organisation from a NSW incorporated association to a Federal corporation
- we need to do this
- minimum requirements of two board members from NSW makes NSW rego untenable
- all other states have an equivalent rule
- Thereofrm only option is federal corp
- the investigation was insofar as what requirements to changing the constitution there are
- whether we would have one constitution for the limited corporation and another for the party management itself
- which me might if 80% of the constitution became legalistic bullshit that had no relevance to the Party as an organ
- and the final aspect: reporting requirements. cost, etc
- How about a constitutional amendment that in the event that there aren't two NC members from NSW, then some resident(s) can be appointed with limited council voting rights?
- Then we can stick with the NSW incorporated association.
- Note, this doesn't legally work as they have to have equal power
- David Crafti to investigate this issue
- we need to know:
- What constitution changes/reqs there are for fed corp migration
- What the motions at the next Congress need to be to create a new legal entity and move the NC over to it
- timeline is congress
Raisely
- Referred to MarkGs email
- Raisely better targeted to ongoing donation campaigns rather than one-off specific goal fundraising drives
- Doesn't really have functionality for award levels etc - if we wanted that we'd probably have to pay them to develop it if not a simple customisation
- Raisely would primarily be a donation portal rather than specific item crowdfund drives
- Raisely option would be best suited to create something like a "pirate party election fund" and then someone at a state level could independently spin off their own campaign to market differently but the money goes to us
- so you could make mini campaigns on all sorts of things and the money all goes into a common bucket
- it's good for general fundraising
- Open ended ongoing campaigns, which could suit ongoing development enhancements to the MemberDB
- but pozible etc could be better for memberDB initial goal raising
- it looks like something good as a general campaign/donation tool but isnt a Pozible-style replacement
- Raisely better targeted to ongoing donation campaigns rather than one-off specific goal fundraising drives
- it's a fundraising management tool.
- you create a broad campaign and people pledge things to the overall campaign
- Suggestion made to look into chuffed.org as an alternative to pozible for cheaper rates?
MemberDB and AfP meeting
- Brendan will also attend AfP meeting and tak on member DB
- Project-M (memberDB) has been dubbed "Collectiva"
- spinning it off as a community open source project which will get all of the feed-in
- Brendan working on code right now
Etsy Store
- Mark will ensure emails for Etsy orders make their way to DanielJ
- https://www.etsy.com/shop/PiratePartyAustralia
- ready to start sharing around.
- First order has been posted off
- DanielJ will likely do postage reimbursements in lots rather than piecemeal
- Mark will look into banner image etc to piratify the store a bit more.
Name Change Proposal
- only mentioned in NC meeting to acknowledge existence of discussion
- name change should be party-wide debate and decision, not an NC driven thing, but facilitated where needed.
- individual NC members can engage in debate, rather than the NC as a body
- Has generated most traffic ever on discuss
- Brendans tweet got RT'd widely and cause much notifications and European parties etc are aware of the discussion and reading the post
General Business
- none
